Meditations on Vishnu English Translation

Shloka In Sanskrit:

शान्ताकारं भुजगशयनं पद्मनाभं सुरेश

विश्वाधारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्णं शुभाङ्गम् ।

लक्ष्मीकान्तं कमलनयनं योगिमिर्ध्यानगम्यं

वन्दे विष्णुं भवभयहरं सर्वलोकैकनाथम् ।।

Meaning In English:

I adore Vishnu who is peaceful in form, who reclines on the serpent bed, who has the lotus in his navel, who is the Ruler of gods, who is the support of the universe, who is all-pervasive like ether, who has the hue of the rain-bearing cloud, whose limbs are auspicious, whose eyes are compared to the lotus petal, who is meditated and realized in the hearts of yogis, who removes the fear of rebirth, who is the spouse of Lakshmi and who is the one Master of all the worlds.

मेघश्यामं पीतकौशेयवासं श्रीवत्सा कौस्तुभोद्भासिताङ्गम् ।

पुण्योपेतं पुण्डरीकायताक्षं विष्णुं वन्दे सर्वलोकैकनाथम् ॥

I adore Vishnu who is of the hue of the rain-bearing cloud, who is dressed in golden silk, who has the mark called srivarsa, who is shining forth with the ornament known as kaustubha, who has elongated eyes compared to the lotus petal: who is approached through religious merit only, and who is the one Master of all the worlds.

नमः समस्तभूतानामादिभूताय भूभृते ।

अनेकरूपरूपाय विष्णवे प्रभविष्णवे ॥

Salutations to Vishnu who is before the beginning of all created beings, who is the support of the earth, , whose forms are innumerable, and who is the Master and Ruler of all.

सशङ्खचक्रं सकिरीटकुण्डलं सपीतवस्त्रं सरसीरुहेक्षणम् ।

सहारबक्षस्थलशोभिकौस्तुभं नमामि विष्णु शिरसा चतुर्भुजम् ॥

I bow down before Vishnu with my head touching the ground-four-armed Vishnu who has conch and discus in the hands, who is adorned with a diadem and ear-ornaments, who is clad in yellow clothes, who has lotus eyes and whose chest is beautiful with necklace and kaustubha.

नामावलिः (1000 Name)

  1. ओं विश्वस्मै नमः -Salutations to Him who has become the universe.
  2. ओं विष्णवे नमः – Salutations to Him who is all-pervading.
  3. ओं वषट्काराय नमः – Salutations to Him who is referred to by the word vashat uttered while making oblations in the Vedic sacrifices.
  4. ओं भूतभव्यभवत्प्रभवे नमः – Salutations to Him who is the Lord of what has been, what will be and what is.
  5. ओं भृतकृते नमः – Salutations to the Maker of all beings.
  6. ओं भृतभृते नमः – Salutations to Him who supports all beings.
  7. ओं भावाय नमः – Salutations to Him who is pure Existence.
  8. ओं भूतात्मने नमः Salutations to Him who is the Sell in all beings.
  9. भूतभावनाय नमः – Salutations to Him who causes the growth of beings.
  10. ओं पूतात्मने नमः – Salutations to Him whose nature is purity.
  11. ओं परमात्मने नमः – Salutations to Him who is the Supreme Self.
  12. ओं मुक्तानां परमायै गतये नमः – Salutations to Him who is the highest goal of those who have attained release from rebirth.
  13. ओं अव्ययाय नमः – Salutations to Him who is unchanging.
  14. ओं पुरुषाय नमः – Salutations to Him who fills all beings and dwells in them from the beginning, granting their prayers.
  15. औं साक्षिणे नमः -Salutations to the direct Witness of all.
  16. ओं क्षेत्रज्ञाय नमः – Salutations to the Self dwelling in the body.
  17. ओं अक्षराय नमः – Salutations to the Imperishable and All-pervading
