It is more typical for one to focus on a particular goddess and find satisfaction of all his worldly and spiritual needs in her. To the adept this goddess becomes the great goddess. The relationship between goddess and practitioner is individual and personal and in this sense secret. It means, only the devotee and the goddess (and Prati).

She is often described as the consort of Shiva and in this role, she is an ideal wife. She has many benign qualities and bestows her devotees with boons including spiritual attainments and knowledge. She is also said to have fierce, terrifying, scary aspects, and is sometimes said to have a liking for meat, wine, and blood (all of which are believed).

As one might expect, hymns to deities such as Kali and Chinnam Astha portray them in a fierce tone, while Kamala and Bhuvaneswari are quite mild in their hymns.

Conversely, one is surprised to see fierce or terrifying aspects of Kamala, as she has strong associations with good luck, fertility, and royal authority, but such qualities are mentioned.
This is also surprising given the description of most Mahavidyas Their meditation mantras and the stories about their origin, each one of them is strongly associated with Durga in the role of demon destroyer.
